01. Eden Gardens, Kolkata



The iconic Eden Gardens is the largest stadium in India by seating capacity, and has been called “cricket’s answer to the Colosseum”. It is the home ground of the Kolkata Night Riders and has a capacity of 66000. Established in 1864, it hosted its first Test match in 1934 and its first One Day international in 1987. It will also host the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils on April 10, 2016.

02. Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai



Built in 1974, the Wankhede stadium has a seating capacity of 34000. The home of the Mumbai Indians, its seaside location gives a lot of assistance to swing bowlers. One of the two major cricketing venues in the city, it has hosted high-profile matches such as the 2011 Cricket World Cup final, as well as Sachin Tendulkar’s last international match.

03. Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali



Built in 1993, this stadium is located on the outskirts of Chandigarh. The home of the Kings XI Punjab, it has a seating capacity of 40000. Unlike other stadiums, it has unusually low lights to prevent collisions with aircrafts flying fro the nearby Chandigarh airport.


04. M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru



Situated in the heart of the city, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is surrounded by the Cubbon Park, Queen’s Road and MG Road. The home ground of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, it has a seating capacity of 37000.

05. Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur



Established in 2008, this stadium is located to the airport in the new state capital Naya Raipur. The home of the Delhi Daredevils, it has a seating capacity of 50000. It hosted its first-ever international match in 2010, between Canada and Chhattisgarh. It hosted its maiden IPL game between Delhi Darevils and Pune Warriors in 2013.


06. Ferozeshah Kotla, Delhi



Home to the Delhi Daredevils, Feroz Shah Kotla is the second-oldest international cricket stadium in India and hosted its first international game in 1948. It gets its name from the historic Feroz Shah Kotla fortress in the vicinity. The stadium has been extremely lucky for India in Test matches, with the national team being undefeated in the venue for over two decades.

07. MCA International Stadium, Pune



Built in 2011 and inaugurated in 2012, this is one of the newest stadiums in India. Located on the outskirts of Pune, it has a seating capacity of 36000. The home ground of the Kings XI Punjab, its first-ever international game was a T20 match between India and England in 2012.

08. Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad



Built in 2004, this stadium has a seating capacity of 55000. Home of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, it hosted its first international match in 2005.

09. Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot



Gujarat's first and one of the few solar-powered stadiums in India, this one will be hosting IPL 2016 matches between Gujarat Lions, Rising Pune Supergiants, Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Delhi Daredevils. It boasts of a seating capacity of 28000 people at a time and is one of the largest, infrastructurally-sound stadiums in the region.

10. Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur



VCA or the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium is another venue for IPL 2016 that cannot be missed. Having hosted popular cricket tournaments such as the Ranji and Dulip Trophy, it will be throwing open its pitch for IPL matches; the major clashes pitting Kings XI Punjab against the Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
